"Be yourself. People don't have to like you and you don't have to care."
One of my biggest pet peeves about going to Hampton University is hearing over and over again how "toxic" Hampton is. Students think it's toxic because "it's a school full of clout chasers." In my head, I could careless about who's "chasing clout" and who is "toxic" because I am the only one who can let those labels affect me. So for the people who aren't having the Hampton Experience they thought they were going have because of this idea of toxic people and clout chasers, this is what I have to say to you...
why does this affect YOUR college experience?
There are always going to be people everywhere in life that we may feel always has the upper hand because of who they know, how they carry themselves, etc. However, we should never let what others do affect us. Your college experience isn't theirs and their college experience isn't yours.
If you focus on yourself, your goals, pouring into your friendships, building a legacy, and replacing all negative energy with positive, I guarantee you, you will no longer care about the "clout chasers" and how "toxic" Hampton is, because you will begin to feel a change in your heart and mentality. Things that used to make you feel some type of way, you may never care about again. The people you thought would be with you for a lifetime become seasonal.
This all comes with being completely accepting of who you are and knowing your worth. Having that "I know WHO I AM, what I AM capable of, and what I DESERVE," attitude will remove any care that you had about clout chasers and the toxicity of Hampton University (or any other institution if you are one of my distance readers :) ) because you'll soon realize if people can't see the greatness in you, that's their loss. AND NOT YOUR PROBLEM, just preserved energy!
People don't have to like you....and you damn sure do not have to care!
