In Trevor Jackson’s latest album, Rough Draft, one of his top hits is titled “In My Crocs”. Jackson begins the song with him mocking the insecure human beings that believe that name brands and materialistic things are what really matters in life.
Peep my 'fit, aye Just bought it out the store Gucci on my feet, look at my drip Just got it out the stove That is what they all say Before they walk out the door
He continues the verse with explaining that he isn’t like that at all. Either throwing complete shade or really trying to open up our brains to understand the message he is trying to convey.
That ain't really me I don't really need None of that to make me whole Say, it don't take much if you know who you really are A diamond will shine even in the dark
Some who read this blog post will think “dam is she really trying to analyze a song about crocs” and others will understand where I am going with this (and I appreciate both).
My purpose of this blog post was to point out the most important line in this song.
Say, it don't take much if you know who you really are A diamond will shine even in the dark
We spend so much time trying to be someone we’re not. Trying to impress people who don’t even matter. And seeking acceptance from ones who don’t even except themselves.
I'll bag yo' bitch in some Crocs (look at my Crocs) I'll bag yo' bitch in some Crocs (look at my Crocs) I just look at her like what? (What?) And she wanted to cuff me like cops I'll bag yo' bitch in my Crocs (look at my Crocs) I'll bag my bitch in my Crocs (look at my Crocs) You don't really have to try hard (look at my Crocs) When you know you got the sauce
We all have our own issues and no one is above anyone. People flock to the ones who are real, genuine, and themselves. The light within each of us shines and becomes visible once we are ok with letting it shine.
A diamond will shine even in the dark
In a school full of fakers, a work environment full of gossipers, or a family that lacks love; in all of that darkness, you are the diamond.
Diamonds shine brighter in the dark, than in light. You will make of impact on people who aren’t true to themselves, who are scared to love themselves because they will envy you. They will envy your confidence, charisma, and love and want it for themselves. A diamond in light, will also shine bright, and it’s great to be around likeminded people, but they won’t need you as much as someone who has yet to find themselves or accept themselves.
It doesn’t take much if you know who you really are. Your happiness and your heart will be full. And people will recognize it. Your glow will shine brighter than a diamond. Just remember you don’t have to be flashy and in designer clothes to be poppin. You can be poppin in your crocs.
