Sensory Senses of a New City Girl

Writer's picture: T. T.

Brooklyn, New York

Smell:

The smell of the city is a combination of trash, animals, and amazing food. From the pizzerias, to the Chinese and burger joints, and let's not forget the Caribbean food; it makes you want to hurry and get inside, but only after you get some good food.

Feel: It doesn't feel like summer time here at all. it just feels muggy. It rains every other day it seems like and I don't know how to dress for the weather. It may be warm outside but on the subway and inside of corporate offices it feels like it's below freezing.

Taste: I haven't tasted too many new places yet, but the pizza here is to die for. The thin crust, 1 slice that fills you up like 3 would, and the cheese that melts in your mouth I can't get enough of it.

See: Cars swerving around other cars. Rats in the subway tracks. People running to catch the subway. People trying not to stare at you, even though you know they are.

Hear:

Sirens. Honking. Yelling and Cursing. The sirens alarming every other hour can be pretty annoying, but I've already learned how to tune them out. People cussing other people out very aggressively in the most strongest NY accent ever. And the never ending honking from impatient drivers. "TAX" at every big store, guys just stands there yelling "TAX" to give people a taxi ride home if they have too many bags.
